The Final Product:  The last Blog entry 2020/11/04 This is the final blog entry. The final product is a pop-up book that is meant to teach and help children to find courage. The book provides this by having three guides teach them and they also have Evan the knight to lead them to each guide.  There are five guides: The Priest, The Historian, The Challenger, The Odd One and The Builder. All five characters have their chapter and stay there. Evan is the only loose character, to make it feel like that he is actually going with the readers and listeners on the journey. The ending leads them to Fear where everyone must work together to defeat him.  The listeners are given weapons to help them join in and feel like they are a part of the story and to help them engage with the story. There are also little notes to help the parents engage and help their children follow the instructions and the activities correctly.  The book has "paper poles" and clips to help keep the pages up. It

Start to assemble the book: DO WE NEED HOLES?

Start to assemble  the book:  DO WE NEED HOLES? 2020/10/30 This week I started with assembling the book. This week's prompt from the brief is "do we need holes?"  The answer is no. I was planning on putting in ring binders, but decided to just stick the pages together with clue.  I wrote in my previous blogs that I was planning on making it pop-up and I did. I found a good video by  studydiaryofalex (2012), who has an amazing tutorial on how to make an easy pop-up book (link in list of sources). I used the backgrounds in my  fourth blog.  This week I started assembling the book, I started by printing out the backgrounds, buildings and characters. Then I started to cutting them out. After that I started putting in the buildings and some of the objects in with the background they go with. The writing, characters and other objects will be added  and will be shown in my last blog next week. I followed the steps shown in  studydiaryofalex's (2012) video. But I think she u

The weapons for the book: ABANDON NORMAL INSTRUMENTS

The weapons for the book:  ABANDON NORMAL INSTRUMENTS 2020/10/25 This week I worked on the weapons so that the listeners and even the reader can join in and be a part of the story. The instructions for the weapons and how they should be used is written in the first and third blog posts. This week's prompt is abandon normal instruments and in a way I did follow this in the sense that I didn't use the correct instruments to make the weapons, like metal or actual materials that could be harmful to children.  All three weapons are save. I made the weapons small enough to be put into a pouch that can be attached to the book.  I made the sword by following the video by  Crazy gulshan’s How to make a Paper Sword . I had to modify it by adding a guard. Then I painted it, which might not be the best and I might will work on it. The material is safe.  For the bow I followed the instructions of  Butler, E. The only step I added was to cut of the pointy ends of the  skewers  and sa

Fixing the Characters and adding Backgrounds:  BE EXTRAVAGANT 2020/10/18 This week's post is really late, but that could be because I was directing my short film for Film and TV class. This prompt for this week is be extravagant, which is way I am so late is because I was just planning on fixing up the characters. I fixed the hands of two of the characters, the drill and tool belt of the Builder and the shoes of the Challenger.  I was planning on just doing that, but then I decided to also start with the backgrounds I will be using in the book. I am planning on making the book a pop-up book, I have to have a background and a floor/ground because I want to make the pop-up book like in the tutorial video by  studydiaryofalex .  I also drew a couple of objects and items I want to also make pop-up along with the characters, but I don't have space to write where I will use them so it might look a little bit confusing. I also drew the picture for the stories the Historian is tellin
